About the Cougars: Guards Quentin Grimes (bruised tibia) and Caleb Mills (bruised ribs) were held out of practice for most of the past week and are questionable. … In the last game Nov. 6, UH beat Houston Baptist 112-73 behind career-high 23 points and 15 rebounds by guard Nate Hinton. The 112 points were the fourth highest total in AAC history. … … After missing 35 days with a broken hand, DeJon Jarreau had his best game of the season with 14 points, six assists, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals. … Guard Marcus Sasser had six 3-pointers for 18 points against HBU, joining Lamar Roberson (2005-06) as the only freshman with six or more 3s in a game in school history. He is shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) on 3s for the season. … Fabian White Jr. is shooting 52 percent (13-of-25) and averaging 14 points and 6.5 rebounds in the last two games. … UH is averaging 86 points and shooting 48.3 percent through five games. One area that has been slow to develop, however, is defense, uncharacteristic for a Kelvin Sampson-coached team but reflective of the roster youth. “If we are going to take a step forward this year at some point you have to draw a line in the sand and say, you know what, I’m going to guard,” Sampson said. … UH has won 36 of the last 38 home games.
